South-East Asian bands showed their mettle at Expo 2020’s Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) Arena on Sunday, as time-tested musicians took turns showing off in an evening of guitar riffs and acoustics fused with percussion and keyboards, for a distinctive sound that gave the audience what they wanted – pure rock.
Opening the stage was Faisal Kapadia, vocalist of the legendary Pakistani pop-rock band Strings, setting the mood and tempo for the night’s music jam.
Multi-awarded Faruq Mahfuz Anam, a Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, guitarist and playback singer more popularly known as ‘Guru James’, rolled out a slew of spine-tingling riffs that cast a spell on an entranced audience.
Euphoria completed the line-up with a musical kaleidoscope comprising mystic hues. The band was formed in India in 1988 and went on to become one of country’s biggest-selling groups.
