DUBAI – Indian singer-songwriter, actor, composer and producer Maqsood Mahmood Ali, better known as Lucky Ali, enthralled the audience with a soulful performance at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Jubilee Stage on Saturday evening.
Renowned for his melodic, husky voice and for introducing a new age of music to India, the legendary singer and self-taught guitarist opened with Anjani Rahon Mein before continuing with a selection of his best-loved hits, including Ek Pal Ka Jeena, Jaane Kya Dhoondta Hai, and Tu Kaun Hai.
There was much cheering when he launched into O Sanam from his chart-topping first album Sunoh, released in 1996, and the audience sang along to Aa Bhi Ja Aa Bhi Ja from the 2002 Hindi musical Sur – The Melody of Life, which stars the singer himself.
Known for his distinctive music style and his untrained voice, Lucky Ali was one of the biggest names on the Indian pop scene in the 1990s with chart-topping albums, such as Sifar (1998). He received the 2001 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Ek Pal Ka Jeena.
