Celebrated Indian playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan lit up the DEC Arena at Expo 2020 Dubai on Thursday night with an electric performance that induced roars of approval from the audience.
Speaking before the concert, Chauhan honoured her late mentor Lata Mangeshkar, commenting: “I know she is here with me tonight… I hope that I’m able to do my best tonight with all the love and I’m definitely going to remember her.”
Reflecting on the chance to perform at Expo 2020 Dubai, Chauhan added: “As soon as I got to know that I’m going to be in Dubai again for Expo 2020 Dubai, I was truly excited because I love the vibe. I love what’s happening around right now. There’s so much excitement. There are so many artists coming and performing all the time so I think it’s going to be really crazy.”
During the concert, Chauhan praised audiences in Dubai for their appreciation of multiple genres. Her performance certainly didn’t disappoint, featuring raw and energetic rock pop numbers, soulful ballads, a touch of 80s synth, and a stunning number with a rhythm taken from Argentine tango that was dark, sultry and worthy of a Bond movie soundtrack.
Throughout all these genres, Chauhan showed Dubai the talents that have made her famous, singing from the heart with an incredible depth of power and expression. The resulting roars and cheers of appreciation were rightfully earnt.
