A phenomenal line-up of Congolese artists rocked the Jubilee Stage on Tuesday night (22 March) with African music and rhythms celebrating the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Expo 2020 Dubai National Day.
Zaiko Langa Langa took to the stage first, performing songs from their prominent albums as one of the key groups of the new wave in Congolese music – named in 2000 as the best Congolese musical group of the 20th century by the Congolese Media Association.
Legendary singer and songwriter JB Mpiana followed, delighting the audience with his rumba, ndombolo and soukous music. The award-winning artist has performed globally and enjoys a huge following, both at home and abroad.
Gims set the stage alight with chart-topping singles from his albums Subliminal, Mon cœur avait raison and Ceinture noire. The Congolese-French singer, songwriter and rapper has collaborated with several international artists and sold more than five million records. He performed Ya Habibi, his song with Mohamed Ramadan, as one of the last songs of his set.
Rapper and percussionist Innoss’B wrapped up the evening with his modern Afrobeats and hip-hop, a fitting finale to a spectacular evening.
