IMD on Wednesday predicted that the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal moved northwestward. And is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm over the same region.
Authorities are advising fishermen and operators of small ships, boats, and trawlers to avoid venturing into the southeast. And adjoining central Bay of Bengal during the day.
Yemen has suggested the name “Cyclone Mocha (Mokha)” for the cyclonic storm. Named after the Red Sea port city of Mokha which introduced coffee to the world 500 years ago.
The deep depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm Mocha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin on Thursday morning.
The IMD further stated that Mocha will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and it will reach its peak intensity on May 13.

Authorities are advising fishermen, ships, trawlers, and small boats to avoid venturing into the southeast Bay of Bengal.
The weather office also suggested regulation of tourism and offshore activities and shipping near Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 8 to 12.
