Last Thursday, on Shah Rukh Khan’s 58th birthday, the much-anticipated Dunki teaser followed the blockbuster hits “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” The highly anticipated teaser of “Dunki” provided a comprehensive glimpse into the movie, which marks the debut collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. Alongside Shah Rukh, the film features Taapsee Pannu in a lead role, with Vicky Kaushal also appearing in the movie.
The teaser commences with a scene showing a group of men and women clad in black attire, traversing a desert while a sharpshooter sets sights on their backs. Upon firing a shot, the teaser transports viewers back in time to the origin story, centered around a circle of friends from Punjab aspiring to work and reside in London. This group includes Shah Rukh Khan, along with friends Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and two others. Shah Rukh’s character, Hardy, pledges to assist his friends in reaching London by any means possible.
Red Chillies Entertainment, Rajkumar Hirani Films, and Jio Studios
“Dunki” is a collaborative effort between Red Chillies Entertainment, Rajkumar Hirani Films, and Jio Studios, slated to hit Indian theaters on December 22. The film will compete with Prashant Neel’s “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” at the box office, featuring Prabhas in the lead role.
During the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia last year, Shah Rukh Khan elaborated on the title of his forthcoming film “Dunki,” explaining that it essentially translates to “donkey.” He disclosed this information during an interview with Deadline.
Shah Rukh expressed, “In English, my film would be called Donkey, it is Donkey.” But the way a part of the country pronounces donkey in India, it is ‘dunki’. The Punjabis say it (donkey) like dunki… How much to tell you about the story…It’s a film directed by Mr. Raju Hirani, one of the most brilliant filmmakers in our country. It is written by a very fantastic writer, Abhijat Joshi. It is a story of people, who want to come back home… when you finally get the calling.”
Furthermore, Shah Rukh emphasized that “Dunki” is a comedic film, as typically seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s works. His movies tend to blend comedy with deep emotions related to the country. The film takes audiences on a vast journey across different parts of the world before culminating in a return to India.
