DUBAI (UAE) – Iranian state television has reported that the military undertook a short-range naval missile exercise on Wednesday. This comes amid heightened tension between Washington and Tehran.
The country has one of the biggest missile programmes in the region and Tehran considers such weapons to be a deterrent and retaliatory force against US aggression and other adversaries.
For Western powers, the missiles of Tehran are seen as a threat to the stability of the region and a delivery mechanism for nuclear weapons once the nation develops them.
Iran’s indigenously-built warship Makran, touted by the state media as the country’s biggest warship with a helipad, as well as another missile launcher vessel Zereh took part in the two-day drill in the Gulf of Oman.
