A meeting between former Malaysian prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his predecessor Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will cover the Malay Proclamation, a document intended to unite the nation’s Malay community.
Muhyiddin Yassin, the president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), stated, “I have read the 12 points listed in the Malay Proclamation document.” The speaker further affirmed that Bersatu supports these principles, which serve as the foundation of our struggles.
Malay Proclamation
The Malay Proclamation refers to a 12-point document written by Dr Mahathir. It purportedly aims to protect the interests of and unite the Malay community to “restore the political power of Malays”. Muhyiddin reportedly said that he has been in touch with Dr Mahathir through intermediaries.
“If I’m not mistaken, he is currently abroad,” he said. So, I said after or before Hari Raya Haji, if he is free, I will see him.” On Jun 7, Dr Mahathir announced that he would be meeting with Muhyiddin . This is to discuss cooperation, after earlier stating that he is ready to work with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.
Bersatu is a component party within PN. “(Muhyiddin) has stated his position; he supports the (Malay Proclamation) and he is not against me. I am not against him either.
When asked about the permanence of the cooperation with PN, whether it would be permanent or only for the state elections, the 97-year-old stated that they would discuss it during the meeting with Muhyiddin.
“We will discuss. “If we find that it is the wishes of the public, there is a possibility that we will compete in the state polls,” he said.
