The Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, has designated as the official island travel partner for this year’s ITB China, a renowned travel trade fair. The Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) set to have a dedicated booth at the upcoming event, which will take place next month.
With a focus on fostering engagement, Maldives Tourism plans to organize various interactive events, including a raffle. As a part of its involvement, MMPRC is also proud to sponsor the ITB China Customized and Themed Networking Lunch. Additionally, on September 13, 2023, the corporation will deliver a Presentation Hub Showcase. This showcase aims to spotlight the Maldives as a premier destination for trade partners and media attendees.
Thoyyib Mohamed, the CEO of MMPRC, emphasized the historical importance of the Chinese market for Maldives’ tourism industry. He highlighted that the resumption of direct flights from China earlier in the year led to a substantial increase in Chinese tourist arrivals.
ITB China holds a distinguished position in the landscape of travel trade fairs, particularly concerning the outbound tourism sector. This collaboration with ITB China viewed as a prime opportunity for the Maldives to reconnect with the Chinese travel trade.
Before the pandemic, China accounted for 16% of the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives, underscoring the significance of the Chinese market for the nation’s tourism sector.
